Two Richmond-area businesses have been named among Virginia’s 50 fastest-growing, privately held companies by the Virginia Chamber of Commerce.

The companies were announced Thursday at the annual Virginia’s Fantastic 50 event, held by the chamber at the Westfields Marriott in Chantilly.

Henrico County-based Capital Square 1031 was ranked No. 33 on the Fantastic 50.

The real estate investment and management company was founded in 2012 by Louis J. Rogers. The company serves as an intermediary for people looking to do exchanges of real estate property under Section 1031 of the Internal Revenue Code.

Richmond-based Brandito, which distributes promotional marketing items, such as coffee mugs, pens and notebooks, to businesses across the country, placed No. 50 on this year’s list.

Brandito also was recognized as a “Virginia Vanguard” company with the highest overall growth in the retail and wholesale category.

Brandito was founded in 2009 as Shockoe Marketing Group and rebranded to Brandito in 2012. Its founder and president is Michael Lovern. Previously based in Henrico, the company now has its headquarters in the Clopton Siteworks, a new redevelopment of former tobacco warehouses in South Richmond.

To be eligible for the chamber’s Fantastic 50, a company must be privately held with headquarters in Virginia, show revenues between $200,000 and $200 million, and demonstrate positive revenue growth and positive net income in its most recent fiscal year over the previous year.

Companies are judged on four-year revenue history. The professional service firm Dixon Hughes Goodman verifies all award entries.

The top-ranked company with the fastest overall growth was FedBiz IT Solutions of Leesburg.

Both Brandito and Capital Square 1031 also have been among the Richmond-area companies on the Inc. 5000, an annual list of the nation’s 5,000 fastest-growing privately-held businesses.

In the most recent Inc. 5000 published last August, Capital Square 1031 ranked No. 1612 on the list with 2017 revenue of $57.6 million. Brandito ranked No. 2235 with 2017 revenue of $3.77 million.
